St. Ruadhan's Abbey was founded in 540 A.D.The ruin that now stands on the site of St. Ruadhan's church was built c. 1000A.D. The remains of the two high crosses that can be seen in the churchyard date back to 750 A.D. and are amongst the oldest in Ireland.
